Rolfing® Structural Integration is a system of soft tissue bodywork and movement education developed over 50 years ago by Dr. Ida P Rolf.
The objective of Rolfing® is to integrate human structure and function in the field of gravity. It is designed to improve the body's structure, posture, alignment and movement.
It is based on the principle that fascia (the connective tissue covering muscles, muscle fibres and organs) stiffens, shortens, and loses its elasticity in response to stress. This can be physical stress such as injury or prolonged poor posture; it can also be mental or emotional stress. Therefore, any overall lack of well being that relates to these issues can be responsive to Rolfing.
Rolfers work to manipulate and release the fascial restrictions in the body that have created patterns of tension and holding. This is achieved by treating the fascia with an approach that is decisive yet perceptive and by guiding the person in their body use and sensory perceptiveness,
Rolfing® is a holistic technique in that the changes in structure can impact the whole person on a physical, mental, emotional and energetic level.
People who have been Rolfed stand and move with more ease, surety and grace relieved from chronic pain, stress and stiffness. When a body is stable in gravity it has increased flexibility, a sense of lightness and internal balance, as well as more energy and greater mobility.
If you want to improve your posture, increase your flexibility, and reduce pain in your body, Rolfing® is for you.
